PA State Cash Welfare Ended on August 1st

The state’s 2012-2013 budget ends General Assistance, which is a $205 per month cash assistance program for poor and disabled Pennsylvanians without children. Almost every eligible participant will no longer receive GA checks as of August 1, 2012.

However, some Pennsylvanians may still be able to receive cash assistance. If you fall into one of the following categories, you should contact the welfare office to ensure continued support: Pregnant, Caring for a child, Receiving benefits for a child, Blind.  Although GA is ending, support provided through Medical Assistance and food stamps will not be affected.   For more information, call Community Legal Services at 215-227-6485.
