2nd Annual Penn Treaty Neighborhood Scholarship A partnership between the Friends of Penn Treaty School and the Fishtown Neighbors Association
Friends of Penn Treaty School and the FNA are pleased to announce the 2nd Annual Penn Treaty Neighborhood Scholarship. This scholarship hopes to recognize two exceptional high school seniors graduating from Penn Treaty School, and support their post-high-school education plans with an award of up to $5,000 each. Our organizations are seeking to raise a total of $10,000 in 2022 to support two scholarships! Penn Treaty School is a public middle and high school located in Fishtown, and all three public elementary schools with catchments within or overlapping FNA's boundaries (Adaire, Hackett, and Moffet) send students to Penn Treaty.
Criteria. To be eligible for this scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:
Student identifies as a first-generation college student, and/or

GPA of 2.5 or higher, with possible exception for trend towards higher grades in junior/senior year accompanied by letter of recommendation
Accepted to an accredited post-secondary education institution (4-year, 2-year, or community college, or other post-secondary education, including trade schools and other accredited training/apprenticeship programs), and decided upon that institution by Penn Treaty’s “Signing Day”
Application. A complete application consists of:

An application essay of not more than two pages on the student’s past (where they came from), present (who they see themselves as), and future (where they are headed).
If GPA < 2.5, letter of recommendation from a teacher, school staff, or other mentor
Award. Up to $5,000, to be awarded to two students, raised by Friends of Penn Treaty and FNA. Funds will be disbursed from FNA/FoPT directly to the education institution. If a student does not complete the program, the remainder of scholarship will be forfeited.
Selection. Penn Treaty school representatives will collect applications, and ensure each student meets the criteria and has submitted a complete application. If more than 20 applications are submitted, Penn Treaty will narrow the application pool to the most promising 20 applications by applying the scholarship criteria. These applications will be shared with the FNA scholarship working group. That working group, plus one representative from FoPT without personal relationships with any of the applicants under consideration, will select the winner by evaluating each application package for merit and need.
